As a rather unique Christmas present, Helga bought Holger a very different history lesson, as told by Neil Richards, headmaster of the British International School.

And Holger was very generous in sharing it with all of us!

So, we met up at our “local pub”, The Green Man, and prepared ourselves for an evening of learning as well as entertainment.

In preparation, everyone gathered at the bar.

Having persuaded everyone to head to The Blue Room, Holger introduced his “Christmas Present”.

Then Neil settled down and was soon into his subject working on the beginnings of civilisation.

OK - so geography maps may not have been his best subject but we got it!

After a staggering lesson (with a short beer break in between), everyone was really impressed by Neil’s depth of knowledge and memory and he received a rapturous round of applause. Now we understand why he is THE “headmaster”!

With big smiles and brains, everyone headed back to the bar for more refreshments.

All in all, a great evening and many thanks to Holger for sharing his present and to Helga for choosing such a different gift. And especially to Neil Richards, who educated us all in the most delightful way – school was never this good!
