Summer Season has begun – no more low season
Tourism in Thailand is many years old. Upswings, downswings, catastrophes, hypes and politics. What has been stable over the years has been the whether. The north-eastern monsoon winds from November till April are warm and bring very little rain. Around end of April the wind changes and Phuket has south-western monsoon setting in, bringing some rain and wind to the island, especially in May and September-October.
These two different weather periods used to be called high season and low season in Phuket, according to the amount of tourist coming to the Island. Despite this fact low season somehow has a bad connotation you might think. A group of hoteliers and the executives in the tourism industry of Phuket thought so too and started the Summer Season campaign. Don’t call it low season – from now on it is the Summer Season.
For Europeans it is very easy to stick to the new term, since May to September are the summer month in Europe. For Thai people it still sounds strange. Words are words, but it is very much true though, that Phuket is a sunny holiday spot all around the year. Temperatures are warm all around the year. Of course you can catch a rainy day but this might happen in every summer seasons around the world, right?
Sea Bees wishes everyone a wonderful Summer Season!
