Situation update: Temporary closure of International Airport Bangkok
SITUATION UPDATE – BANGKOK ONLY (All direct and charter flight to and from Phuket are operating normal!)
The Temporary Closure of Suvarnabhumi International Airport
As of November 26, 2008 / 10.00 hrs. (Bangkok Time)
November 25, 2008 / 21.00 hrs.
The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) anti-government protesters forced the partial closure of Suvarnabhumi International Airport when demonstrators broke through police lines and entered the Departure Lounge.
Inbound flights were still operating normally with aircraft being cleared for landing.
November 25, 2008 / 22.00 hrs.
With anti-government protesters having blocked access to the airport via the main motorway and the main entrance, shortly after 21.00 hrs., Acting Airports of Thailand (AoT) president and Acting Suvarnabhumi Airport Director Serirat Prasutanont announced the cancellation of all flights departing from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. As a result, some passengers were stranded at the airport.
November 26, 2008 / 04.00 hrs.
All inbound and outbound flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport have been cancelled since 04.00 hrs. (21.00 GMT Tuesday)
For security reasons Suvarnabhumi Airport will be closed from Tuesday, November 25th, 21.00 hrs. onwards until further notice. The airport authorities have been negotiating with anti-government protesters to move their political rally to an alternative protest site to enable airport operations to resume as soon as possible.
November 26, 2008/ 08.00 hrs
Thai Airways International (TG) announced that a total of 16 flights have been diverted to land at Don Mueang International Airport, while another three flights: TG508/Muscat-Karachi-Bangkok, TG520/Kuwait-Dubai-Bangkok and TG 941/Milan-Bangkok, have been diverted to land in U-Tapao Airport. All of THAI’s inbound and outbound flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport are temporarily suspended until it resumes normal operations.
THAI’s domestic flights, inbound and outbound from Don Mueang International Airport are operating normally.
Don Mueang International Airport is operating normally.
There has been no declaration of State of Emergency.

as I said, we will keep you up to date about this situation and publish changes as soon as possible. The government tries to solve the situation as quickly as possible, so hopefully you can do your trip next week as planned.
Some airlines have changed their incoming flights to Don Muang (the old Bkk airport) and U-Tapao (airport outside of Bkk) to be able to operate.

in Deutschland werden die Flüge mittelerweile von einigen Reiseveranstaltern für die nächste 2 Tage ganz gestrichen.
Schade, daß so viele Touristen betroffen sind. Dies schadet dem thailändischen Tourismus leider bestimmt.
Ich drück aber auf alle Fällen, allen die die nächsten Tage fliegen, ganz fest die Daumen.

gut, dass Ihr erst in 18 Tagen fliegt… aber Du hast schon recht, die armen Urlauber, die jetzt in den Urlaub kommen möchten. Naja, mit ein bisschen Glück sieht die ganze Sache morgen schon wieder ganz anders aus
Ich werde Euch auf dem Laufenden halten.
Für uns kein Problem. Wir verfolgen die politische Situation in Thailand nicht nur wenn etwas passiert – oder die Medien sich mal wieder überschlagen. Es ist nur immer problematisch, wenn Touristen betroffen sind da viele Medienberichte leider nicht vollständig sind oder in keiner Relation stehen zu dem, was wirklich passiert. Dies hat zur Folge, daß die Reiseveranstalter reagieren müssen und bereits jetzt Stornierungen und Umbuchungen anbieten. Dabei betrifft es doch nur Bangkok. Wenn etwas auf dem Flughafen passiert, werden die Flüge doch auch einfach umgeleitet und umgebucht.

Also ich hätte nichts dagegen, wenn wir in 18 Tagen direkt auf Phuket landen
Mitleid hab ich nur mit denen, die die Nacht am Flughafen verbringen mußten. Ich hatte das auch schon mal, daß ist nicht lustig, da die Zeit einfach nicht vergeht.
