Tesco is slow on the uptake about selling shark fins
Not only Sea Bees’ Managing Director has sent e-mails to Tesco, Sea Bees dive instructors have as well. Yesterday we have received another reply. Somehow Tesco has a hard time understanding our concern about selling shark fins.
After receiving this mail, we promptly had to ask Tesco, to tell us about a sustainable way of obtaining shark fins. Here our e-mail back to Tesco:
Dear Sir or Madam,
thank you very much for your reply.
I am glad to hear you will take expert advice on the subject, please do that as soon as possible. I would really like to know what is a sustainable way of obtaining shark fins, particular given that many species of sharks are already endangered???
I look forward to hearing from you very soon again.
Best Regards,
Julie
… I’ve got this funny feeling, they are not too concerned at all. Telling us, that ‘they like to assure us that they have fully logged the points we have made and these will be directed to the correct area of the business.’ Right, we don’t even know who our queries have been refered to, or what action they might take one day. How many more sharks have to die a very cruel death till then???

Last night we have received this e-mail from Peter:
‘Great that this has been brought to attention. This is in the hand of Shark Trust now and Tesco has already invited representatives from the Shark
Trust to engage in dialogue on this matter.
The Shark Trust has accepted Tesco’s invitation, whilst reiterating their request for immediate withdrawal of all shark fin products across Tesco’s stores.’
Sea Bees Diving will stay in touch with Shark Trust and keep our readers up to date about it.
Lets keep fighting for those incredible creatures!
